The attached KMZ file (less than 300 KB) provides the centerlines for 13,841 runways at 9,984 airports throughout the globe in one MultiGeometry placemark.

It is useful for judging the alignment of images and other Google Earth data, because they are published to six decimal digits of latitude and longitude (0.01 seconds).

They were published by the USA's National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and called the DAFIF database. The last edition was released in October 2006, from which this set was derived last autumn. (For image alignment purposes, it is fortunate that airport runways are not relocated very often.)

They are currently available on several Web sites, e.g., the World Aeronautical Database.
