O boy ... annoying flashing graphics! ???
      #92680 - 08/31/05 09:38 PM

I'm a really new user. I've checked through the various "helps" that I could find, but don't find any specific answers in re-

how to turn off these flashing geometric lines when I've got the "roads" option checked in layers? it wasn't like this the last time I was on the site ... it's so bad now I can barely see the map for the nonsense graphics! ack!

and, is there any way to individually delete the various markers? I know you can remove all-or-none of a category ... but can you click on individual marks and remove them? (not from the whole database, but at least from my personal view?) I mean, some people put their markers right in the middle of 6-lane highways! and some of them aren't even particularly close to the target!

forgive me any redundant questions; I did try looking up answers in the FAQ and in likely-looking places. I'm frustrated now, and all the flashing is enough to give a new user a tic!

exotec,
Welcome to the BBS and Google Earth.

Now, my first suggestion, with the copious amounts of information you gave us about your system, would be Video incompatibility.

What video controller... (Please don't tell me "Mobility ATI" or "NVidea MX") and have you loaded the LATEST video drivers?

How much video memory? (Please don't tell me it's less than 64 mb)

Latest OpenGL and/or DirectX 9?

Speaking of which, did you try both of those modes?

When you say: "it wasn't like this the last time I was on the site"?
Was it on the same computer?
Was it on the same Google Earth? Free, Plus, Pro or was it Keyhole 1.x or 2.x?

What operating system? Windows 98, 2000, ME, 2003, XP (sp1, sp2)?

Just a few questions... Oh... have you looked at this?

Hi Lrae

I hope I can answer your questions! I'm not the computer expert here ... but I'll try; the information I'm given under "My Computer" says
the video controller is Radeon 7000 v 6.14.10.6462.
I don't do the updates for versions or drivers, but my husband is usually fanatical about updates, so I think most everything is probably up to date.
We're using WinXP-Pro sp2
I don't know where to look for video memory - I didn't see anything listed in the properties box for that component. -?- I think he may have said 128, but I'm not sure he was talking about video when he said that.
I'm told that both OpenGL and DirectX 9 are on the system - does that seem likely?
This local computer is 40 GB with 69% free space and 1GB RAM ... but the server is bigger;
I was definitely on this computer and not the server, because the server doesn't have a keyboard, and I have to disconnect this one and take it in there where there's no desktop (and that means trying to balance it on the fish tank which is a challenge and an annoyance, so that doesn't happen much)
And yes, it was the same Google Earth (free) the last time I was on -- so far as I know; I didn't DL a new one or anything, if that's what you mean. I just started it again from the icon, and got these wild flashing geometrics ... they look like they're attached to points on the map. If I turn off the roads it stops. But then, of course, you get no roads.
Thanks for all your links to information. I'm late for work and have to run for now, but I'll look when I get home, and maybe find an answer to what I did to it! (I really suspect it's more likely something I did than something defective on the machine, but you never know!)
Any further suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks

I have had the same problems after reinstalling the new version.

I changed under Tools-Options [View]-Graphics Mode from direct-x to open-gl, and now so i got rid off the annoying graphics....

hope, this helps....
