Heidelberg, Germany, still no high resolution data
      #961096 - 07/30/07 06:42 PM

why doesn't heidelberg get high resolution data when there's a ton of small cities in germany getting high resolution updates with the latest data update???

heidelberg has a population of a 130000 and one of the best universities in germany and europe. in fact it's the 3rd oldest in europe! 30000 students deserve high resolution data!

also it's throughout the world one of the best known cities in germany with over 3 million tourists visiting each year!

mark twain used to live here and loved it...

then there's the NATO and US army in heidelberg with around 30000 more people living here, which raises the unofficial population to around 160000-170000 inhabitants. a lot of people would love to see what has become of their good old heidelberg and the data right now is like 5 years old! it's really a shame to see data this old in a city this famous like heidelberg... it's not one of the oldest cities in germany, only a little more than 800 years, but it deserves data that is high resolution and up to date.... also the terrain data is really bad! if one follows the river neckar upstream towards stuttgart one gets sick of the faulty data....

please google substitute the satellite data for recent aerial data, please!

thnx for reading this and thnx for the great work the whole google earth/maps team is doing.

Hi smokeonit,

You know, inclusion in GE is not related to the importance or features of the area. And, the ages of the images are not the "primary" concern.

as for the footage for heidelberg germany, in the city center there has been some constrcution recently, which is not shown in the footage shown in GE right now... as a result of those projects even some streets are non-existent anymore, thus it would be the local GE staffers would update those changes asap...

if the footage is 9 years old i think it should be a concern to google, since modern cities have a lot of construction going on and in 9 years a lot of new buildings and roads are built... in heidelberg there's quite a few new buildings, and on top there's even a rural new highway in the southern part of heidelberg that is not featured... i call that quite severe....

and what does inclusion mean??? there's regions in germany that are newer and of higher resolution, but no one cares about them... heidelberg is a well known city all over the world... in most cities around the globe there's a restaurant called "heidelberg", and mark twain, goethe and other famous people have been to heidelberg... the 3rd oldest european university is located in heidelberg, and the castle is also world famous... the nobel prize for medicine 2008 was awarded to a scientist based in heidelberg...

Hello smokeonit

Look here for newer images from Heidelberg: Heidelberg

I think this is the wrong place to ask if there will be new images for a specific city. If I wanted to get these informations, I would ask in the land surveying office of my city or in the city hall. I think these poeple are the first who know when new images will be provided for GE.
