UPDATED: December 8, 2006
This post is hopefully useful to classrooms as they learn about the state capitols and America's history. Attached are each state's capitol building. Unfortunately, two states do not have their capitol building in high-definition (currently, as of December 8, 2006). These states are Kentucky and Vermont. Also, I have recently added the locations of the Canadian capitols.
The use of them is up to you. Personally, I am a very visual learner, and seeing them used interactively would help me learn.
An additional resource (introduced by Lrae), is 50 States. Along with having tons of information, the website also links you to other helpful websites. Some of the information includes: size and location of state, when it entered the Union, state bird, state flower, state song, state flag, the state's climate, the state's economy, and much more. As always, encyclopedias also work well.
I hope schools will enjoy this information, but more importantly, learn from it. This attachment is a prime example of how Google Earth can be used in the classrooms. This is just the beginning, I hope to add more information about each state in the time to come! Any feedback is welcomed. Enjoy!

PLEASE USE ATTACHMENT FROM THE ORIGINAL POST! THANKS!
After much work, I am finally happy with these placemarks. I have added additional information to each of state's placemarks. The information includes the state's: nickname, capital, largest city, 2000 Census population, and when it entered the Union. There is still much more information available at a great site, www.50states.com.
Any feedback or errors you may have found is greatly welcomed. Enjoy!

Just had another thot. To make your life easier. Since the data is "dynamic" or at least subject to occasional update, why not let someone else update the info and your KMZ simply provide links to the data ... i.e.; the CIA World Factbook ???

PLEASE CHECK THE POST BELOW FOR AN UPDATED "CANADIAN CAPITALS" COLLECTION! THANKS!
I finally got my act together to begin the Canadian capitals.
This attachment is the placemarks of each territories' capital. I was only able to find the capitol buildings of the following territories: Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan. If anyone knows the location of the others, please let me know. As always, if you find any errors or suggestions to these placemarks, please let me know, also. Thanks, and enjoy!

Kempster, check THIS WEBSITE. And THIS WEBSITE. For everyone's benefit ...
CAPITOL = building
CAPITAL = city
By the way, the Dominion of Canada has both provinces AND territories. Some days I think Canada is my 2nd home due to so many visits & so much research into history, geography, geology, etc. Mostly British Columbia & Alberta.
Baja California, Mexico is about equal to Canada as a second home. By the way, Mexico is a republic . Use THIS POST & DATA if interested.
Use the TOOLS FORUM to get links to webpages for state/provincial seals, state/provincial flags, national anthems and more tidbits yet to come.

After help from some an anonymous user, the Canadian Capitals collection has been updated. Here is a list of the provinces/territories that have high-resolution and I have identified the capital building: - Alberta
- British Columbia
- Manitoba
- Nova Scotia
- Ontario
- Prince Edward Island
- Quebec
- Saskatchewan
The territories of New Brunswick and Newfoundland have low-resolution, but I have identified their capital buildings. If anyone has an aerial overlay of these capital buildings, please be sure to let me know.
And here is the list of the territories/provinces that have low-resolution and I have not identified the capital building. As always, if anyone knows where the capital building is, or even better, have aerial imagery of the capital building, let me know! - Northwest Territories
- Nunavut
- Yukon Territory
I have also added the Parliament building of Canada's capital: Ottawa. Please let me know if you have suggestions or corrections. Thanks and enjoy!
