Google Earth .0548 feedback thread
      #98183 - 09/04/05 05:30 PM

There's a new installer with some minor bug fixes available, get it here:

GoogleEarth-0548.exe
(works for both free and Plus)

GoogleEarthPro-0548.exe

Changes between Beta4 (August 26th, .0529) and Beta5 (Sept 3rd, .0548)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bug fixes
---------
- overview window no longer fuzzy, will fetch as needed

- several rare crashes, mostly with bad graphics drivers

- direct URL links to KMZ files in description balloon now work (KML already did)

- custom icons no longer require the size be input, it defaults to the extents of the image

- IMG SRC local image files were not being zipped into kmz (0464 regression, now fixed)

- balloon now resizes to match image width

- hyperlinks in
were misleading and have been disabled

- obscure bug in Intel jpg library failed on some AMD processors, updated library fixes problem (this showed up as "zebra-like stripes")

[ NOTE: "Share with Google Earth Community" still only works with IE... we'll have to fix this in the next one ]

Cosmetic Change
---------------
Installing Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer has been added as an option at the end of the Google Earth install or upgrade. You'll only be asked once and only if IE is your default browser and you don't already have Toolbar installed.

Before this update I didn't have the fuzziness problem, but I do now. Seems fixing that problem for some people broke it for me. Streaming take forever and the view doesn't clear up even at 100%.

JasonL,

Can you confirm that .0548 is the problem by uninstalling and re-installing .0529?

I put up an archive copy at http://bbs.keyhole.com/GoogleEarth-0529.exe

Greenwood,

We did change the logic in that area and it was browser specific... we'll investigate the issue with Opera.

Ok... Rolling back to .0529... getting an error on the login screen. "Google Earth can not contact Primary database." (I'm a plus subscriber.) Re-installing... no improvement. I was using .0529 earlier today and everything was just dandy.

It worked fine last night after I installed 0548 and it even opened normally last night right after installing it and I believe again later. Today, when I tried to open a placemark it told me "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application." I click ok and it tells me again. Any quick fixes or do I have to do a fresh install?

Edit: I shut down my computer again most of the day and it is now working normally. With nothing done other than shutting down.

Thanks for the version number in the .0548 URL [Re: PenguinOpus]
      #101314 - 09/06/05 08:02 PM

That helps. However, please note the version number of the Installer (in the file attributes) is not the version of Google Earth that gets installed. Rather it appears to be the InstallShield or Wise (or whatever) version. This confusese the matter.

Build appears corrupt again. See image below. I'll try again in the morning.

Will,

The build is not corrupted. We have evidence of thousands of successful installs, so I think the problem you're seeing is specific to your download process.

works fine everywhere e.g.
<Icon>
<href>images/pegelsym2.png</href>

but not in

in
the local image is zipped into kmz but it doesnt load into the blubble

e.g.

a bug or my programming mistake ?

saved the working KML file as kmz in google earth
