Have any of you found that the new image is about 350 feet off in co-ordinate location when compared to the base Google Earth old images? Which one is correct? - Steve

Hi all,
I have 2 questions:
1: Why is the special high res area so small???? ("only" approximately 67 by 32 miles, a distance which you will cover in 1 our or half an hour with a plane like Steve's. Now compare that to the 4 hour endurance which was said to be teh case....) Am I missing something here....
2: Why does the streaming sometimes jams/stalls when zooming in on an area, is that because of "high demand"?)
Good luck with the search!

no emergency responder signal even? Why can't they just call norad to see where it dropped off radar?

jqjq,
Most of the radar coverage is passive using transponder replys. There's no active radar coverage throughout the entire US so they can't see it all.
Secondly an emergency transponder signal can only be selected in the box itself and an ELT only gives a signal when on board and being crashlanded or when switched on when onboard when not being crashlanded.

What good are "new layers" if it's only the last known location of him. To me a last known location can mean anything.

I'm having problems with MTurk. If someone could explain how or where to simply send a coordinate that would be helpful. Examining the kml image from that site I noticed what appears to be a smoke plume. It would seem to be an odd place for a campfire, although there is no noticable debris. Also note how the older GE image does not show this feature.

-edit... looking at these images more closely it looks more like some sort of manmade fire. There is a road intersecting the location and the older image seems to show a very faint bit of smoke along with a circular clearing about the smoke location.
