I made a kmz file with the constellations and their names clickable, with a short information from wikipedia, a starchart and a link to the full article in wikipedia. The constellations are by intention faint ones so they wont disturb me much.
I addition (and that`s why the file is so big- 5.8MB) I included some overlay pictures of constellations made from engravings from Johannes Hevelius Firmamentum Sobiescianum (1690) - look inside the Picture overlay Folder to enable them.
A Preview Picture and the download can be found here.
As there are many more depictions of our constellations - and of course of those from other cultures, i wonder if it would be useful to have them together in one file, like a history of constellations and a cultural comparison . If someone is interested in working on that just let me know.
regards stephanie

Stephanie,
it turns out that The Space Telescope Science Institute did the work of scanning all the images a while back!!! And I am ashamed to tell you I have no idea!!!!!
Here is the link HubbleSource
I'd like to make small modification to the layer to reflect this and point to how it was done from the link above.
Ciao! -A

thanks for appreciating my file.
i know that the drawings are not complete, but the files rested on my harddisk for a while and I just couldn't resist to put them up to the sky.
I hope I find a way to include the missing ones.
bye stephanie

Hi Stefanie - this is a great idea. I have a suggestion: You should be able to simply point at the URL of the pictures from the Hubble site, instead of including them within your KMZ file. This will make the file much smaller, and confine the downloading of the images to when they are turned on - they will be downloaded directly from the Hubble site. This should make it much more practical to include all the illustrations.

hi frank.
good suggestion - I have created a network link file: Constellations.kml
unfortunately I cannot use the original pictures as a link because mine are inverted, mirrored and sometimes somewhat shaped.
bye stephanie
