While I don't acknowlege the claimed role of CO2 in climate change, I'm all for finding alternatives to fossil fuels. Many of the proposed solutions have drawbacks which cannot be ignored, several of which Jeff_Norman mentioned. Wind farms and solar generators would have to be sited far away from centres of population to be effective, and the resulting long power lines would absorb a large percentage of the power output. The same goes for nuclear power stations, if we want them at a safe distance from our cities. Wave and tide power is a possibility, but won't be much use to landlocked countries or those with a small coastline Geothermal energy looks promising, but again, likely sources are will be far from major cities. On a lighter note, if we could harness all the hot air that's talked about global warming, CO2 emissions, melting glaciers and icecaps, the Kyoto protocol, 9/11 and JFK conspiracies, we could power the entire planet for decades.
