But Slovak/Hungarian names dispute has different background. Slovakia was a part of Kingdom of Hungary, which applied HUngarisation (ethnic assimilation policies implemented by various Hungarian authorities in the 19th century and at the beginning of 20th century). I hoped that it is a past policy but Syzygy is recalling this issue back again with his posting about historical HUngary (which is actually pointing to Great Hungary), refering to Slovaks as toths and naming towns and cities in Slovakia in google earth with alternative Hungarian names. It is true that these names are historical but just because all the places during that time had Hungarian names. Szirák (Hungarian version of Wikipedia) (a place where my Slovak grandfather stayed in 1743) was popolated by Slovaks (from wikipedia) but do not have any alternative Slovak name..
There are app 600 000 etnic Hungarians in SLovakia and also 500 000 etnic Slovaks in HUngary. Let's guess how many alternative names are on google earth... BTW: How to add alternative name?
