Google Earth Community: Rampart Reservoir, Colorado

This is one of the most beautiful locations in Colorado. Near Colorado Springs, this remote reservoir offers the outdoor enthusiast an awe inspiring hike, bike, or camping experience. Motor boats are no longer allowed on the reservoir due to zebra mussel concerns commonly spread by motorized boats. Because these mussels can clog piping and the fact that Rampart Reservoir is a major water source for Colorado Springs, the Colorado Springs utility company made this restriction. If you canoe, this makes Rampart Reservoir a joy! There are two campgrounds near the reservoir - they can be reserved at http://www.reserveamerica.com . The campground names are Thunder Ridge and Meadow Ridge - both are wonderful campgrounds. If you are traveling with a recreational vehicle, be aware there's a five mile section on the park access road, Rampart Range Road, that's a wash boarded dirt road. The campground provides water; however, there's no other utilities - not even a dump station. There are dump station facilities in the nearby town of Woodland Park.
