The International Boundary Commission (IBC) defines the borders as straight lines which this file connects between its 11,522 monuments and over-water turning points. The file contains a link to the
official source of the data.

Google's April 2006 border changes reduced their yellow US-Canadian Border to a lower resolution. When you zoom in to see the details, in some places you will find total agreement between this file's blue IBC borders and Google Earth's yellow borders. In other places, there are now considerable differences of a mile or more, especially on the eastern end (Québec-New England).
  • Version 1 released 17 February 2006.

  • Posting edited 21 November 2006 to make the wording more clearly explicit.

  • Version 2 of 1 May 2007 connects the 17 delineated segments into two segments -- the primary East-West continental boundary and the Canadian-Alaskan section -- which are combined into one "<MultiGeometry>" entity.

    Removed: (1) The disputed "A-B Line" in the Dixon Entrance. (2) The disputed Machias Seal Island area in the Gulf of Maine. (3) The Georges Bank area whch is outside the purvue of the Boundary Commission, and which was settled by the International Court of Justice on 12 October 1984.
