I'd thought it might be the Edson at first, but this ship didn't look to be in quite as good of a condition as the Edson. I could easily chalk that up to the lighting, though. I couldn't see the barrels in the turrets for example. It IS in remarkably good shape, yeah. I think I'll update the placemark when I get home to say it's probably the Edson. Silly me for talking myself out of it.
As for the ghosting, if you notice there has been quite a lot of updating of the New York imagery over time. The area from Manhattan to JFK has been updated with new aerial photography. I guess they leave the harbor imagery at lower resolution because the airplanes don't tend to photograph much of the water. As you say, I'm sure they try and pick interesting ships at dock. I think the utter WORST ghost problems are the docks in Greece near Athens. Those are horrible. They need to fix their layer blending there and just pick one layer to be totally opaque. (if they can)
