Things to do when asking for TECHNICAL SUPPORT
      07/01/06 12:06 AM

French Version

First off, many new users suffer minor problems, and ask, “HELP! I have lines across the earth”. This is easily solved and can be a one-sentence answer. READ THIS POST

A word of warning to those using pirate versions of Windows. Microsoft have prevented pirate copies of windows to be updated, if you have a pirate copy you will experience problems running GE. Buy a legal copy.

Many answers to common problems can be found in the HELP pages and RELEASE NOTES .

AMD DUAL-CORE OPTIMIZER HERE

Some, however, require a more substantial answer.

In this case it would be helpful to supply some system details along with the nature of your problem. (and a sugar bag full of $100.00 bills would be nice)

· Operating system. (WinXP, Mac)
· Ram size. (1Gb)
· Processor & speed (Pentium 4, 3.2)
· Graphics card. (NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT)
· Connection speed (Dsl 8Mb, Dial-up)
· GE version (GE4 beta, GE3)
. Browser/s (IE6, Firefox)
. Firewall & Pop-up Blocker

GE minimum and recommended requirements can be found HERE

Some things you could do first are: SEARCH the relevant support forums for similar problems, Turn off your firewall and any site-blocking software. (Always remember to turn them back on) Also checkout no_strangers addition to this post, below.

Whatever you do, don’t panic and get impatient. There are many people here from around the World, 24 hours a day, that are happy and willing to help. You may get an answer straightaway, and it may take a couple of hours, Just keep checking back.

When posting a NEW question within a thread, please change the subject/title so we can deal with that, separately

Remember: when your problem has been solved, let us know.
This will allow others with the same problem to help themselves, if they do a search.
If you never come back and tell us what worked, it will make our job harder because we'll never know for the next person with the exact same problem. The BBS will become a forum of problems with no solutions, So do your part. If we suggest something to you and you try it and it fixes your problem, take the time to come back and find that thread and say, "Yes, that fixed it ".

Thanks to no_stranger & MightyPete for their contribution to this post.

Enjoy yourselves and welcome to the GEC.
