Bacolor is a fascinating place. The villages showed great resilience, especially during the worst of the lahar inundation (1991-97). Besides the church you see many buildings buried to different degrees. Some of the original structures only have their roofs showing; some were placed on stilts, so after lahar inundation actually rest at "ground level". Others were even more cautious about the continued threat of having their homes buried, and can be found raised on stilts above the current ground (a common practice to protect against typhoon season flooding anyway).
