Probably only of interest for real information junkies. I have never been able to stay from large piles of numbers. The UNCDB, the United Nations Common Database. Went Free as of May 1, 2007. Has national, annual statistics on things like Agriculture, Economics, Trade, Energy, Education, Environment, Health, Mining, Population, S&T, Communications, plus much much more, in impressive detail... Not an intuitive interface, but if you poke around for a while, you can probably squeeze out a spreadsheet or something. There is heaps of data here, (accuracy, To be determined.) http://unstats.un.org/unsd/cdb/cdb_help/cdb_quick_start.asp To get some ideas, see what can be done with this sort of thing, take a look here Gapminder organization http://gapminder.org/ is working on some really cool dynamic graphic representations of numerical data, and the analysis of that data, implications to the planet--theirs are mostly custom apps, just started exploring there.
