swbuehler Tourist Reged: 09/03/05 Posts: 2 Central/South Florida Weather Radar       09/03/05 08:40 AM View in Google Earth (864 downloads) Edit   Reply   Quote   Quick Reply   The National Weather Service Southern Region HQ has started publishing its raw radar images and warning areas as GIF format, with accompanying world files for use in GIS software. The world files use WGS84 coordinate system, the same as Google Earth, so I created some image overlays for the radars in Tampa, Melbourne, Miami, and Key West so I could see the weather down to my location or a route I am taking somewhere that day. Unfortunately, Google Earth doesn't seem to support animated GIF as an image overlay yet, but the NOAA images are static, anyway. The images are set to update every five minutes, which is just about the frequency that NOAA updates the radar (it could be shorter or longer). Post Extras
