Usuzumi Sakura in Motosu city is said to have been planted in 487. Usuzumi means light gray.

The name was given to this tree because though the color of the bud is pink after the flower blooms, it changes from white to light gray.Sakura, cherry blossoms, are known as the representative Japanese flower in spring to the world. Usuzumi-zakura is a flowering cherry tree of some 1,500 years old, 17.2 meters in height, and 9.2 meters in circumference, in Neo.

The tree is appointed as the National Natural Monument of Japan.
