I've just posted a .kmz file for locations in "the Surgeon's Mate" but unfortunately I posted it in "History Illustrated" instead of here. I'm still trying to get the hang of things around here.
If anyone knows their way around Paris, they may be of some help, as I was unable to figure out where the Temple prison may have been. Somewhere near the Rue des Neuf Fiancees, if that helps. And I had to make my best guess for several locations at the close of the book, when the Ariel grounds near Brest.
Any tips and help will be greatly appreciated!

I suppose I won't start with the first book then. I was wondering why nobody had yet tackled this project.

Great books. Try Dean King's outstanding "Sea of Words" if you have trouble understanding the nautical or naturalist language of the books. Great dictionary to accompany the series.

These postmarks show locations in "The Far Side of the World," book 10 in the Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian. I did not include over-marked locations like the Galapagos Islands and Valparaiso. This information comes from Dean King's excellent book, "Harbor and High Seas;" I just finished reading TFSofW and didn't make notes of more specific locations. I'll try to do so when I get to "The Reverse of the Medal" and beyond.

Hi,

Have the answer for the Temple prison in Paris.
Here is a web page for the story of the place : http://www.templiers.org/paris-eng.html
For short : the place was built in 1240 for the needs of the rapidly growing order of the Temple. Was transformed in a prison in 1792, the royal family was held in there. Napolon ordered its destruction in 1808. The actual garden was designed by Alphand in 1857.
By the way, the Rue des Neuf Fiancees in Paris seems to come from the imagination of P.O'Brian.
Hope this helps
