nice contribution to gps scene.
why don't you open your code at sourceforge and freshmeat?
gps engines are very useful for deploying a lot of applications, and helping gps community to build good complete and different applications for this technology.
let me know if you want a partner coder for future developments
i work with C# . Net , and you?

I did a program that does a similar thing. http://web.295.ca/gpz550/TrackerGE/ if anyone cares to try it. Mostly for APRS remote tracking. Usual warnings about using software apply - i.e., don't blame me if something goes wrong!! Not owning a laptop (or even highspeed - Grrr!), I can't even test my own software properly. If anyone finds it useful, I'd appreciate an email - the link is on the web page.

markcearley: As far as I know, it will work with a USB GPS device as long as the output is NMEA. To be honest, Ive never tried it, but it should work just fine. I have tested it with everything but USB (Bluetooth included). Has anyone out there tried a USB device? If it does not work I would like to fix it so it does.
Rodrigo_Ratan: Thanks for the complements. This thing came about when I was first turned on to GE and purchased the plus thing for GPS support. That's when I noticed it is based on gpsbabble and did not support near real time input. Made me think it would be fun to take a crack at something better.
I was able to gut an existing app and tweak it to include kml output. Actually, the GPS portion of this app was borrowed from a PocketPC app I wrote last year.
Having countless hours into coding this GPS interface, and making a living writing GPS enabled apps for various industries (vb.net btw), I don't think opening my code to other developers is in my best interest. As nice as that would be (I generally like to share things like this), I cannot do this for obvious reasons. It's my bread & butter man!
I am currently in the process of adding some features to this little app and will have a new build available soon. Just gotta iron out a few kml related issues when time allows. As always, I am open to ideas. If there is something you would like to see this thing do I'm game as long as it's within reason and possible, time permitting.
Offering this to the GE community for free is the best I can do. It is, after all, only an experiment that I learn from. If you guys benefit from it, it's a win-win situation.

MotoDude the app does work with my nmea serial gps, but does not "see" the usb earthmate. The earthmate is much preferable due to small size,no external power source, etc, etc. Any additional input is appreciated.

Just did a quick search on the earthmate unit and think this is the solution: DeLorme Serial Emulation Driver for USB We need to get the USB to emulate a standard serial port. It looks like running this utility and configuring it to emulate a port then setting your nmeaGE settings to the same port should get you going. I hope this does the trick. If not, please let me know and I will keep looking into it. Thanks!

Hello from Germany! This tool seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately I can't find a link to download this tool. Can you help me? Thanks!
