This post contains multiple placemarks to some nice villa locations on the Island of St John in the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. I am posting this because it can be very difficult to locate villas when planning a trip to St John, the streets are not marked and numbered consistantly, etc. so it is a bit difficult to figure out where these villas are from their on-line ads. Well, with the help of some St John travel enthusiasts on the travel site... "http://www.virgin-islands-on-line.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=1" I have located these villas and made it simple for others to get a quick orientation of where some cool places to stay on STJ are! Villas in STJ may rent for anywhere from US$800 to US $40k per week. The lower end of the price range is a great alternative to hotels. I will post updates as possible. USVI

Why do you put multiple locations on Google Earth, but then only to have them all say the same thing? This is not how the Google Earth Community should work. Each and every location should be it's own unique description. I like to click on the little "i" to see what someone else has to say about a particular place, but when I keep clicking on your markers all over the place... they all say the same thing! By doing this... I don't know what to call it... laziness, you defeat the purpose of Google Earth and by reference Google Maps as well.

Listen, I don't mind what you are trying to do, making KMZ files that group multiple locations for a certain subject or topic is a good, but the individually marked locations on Google Earth need to be different. Besides, if all of your locations have the same description posted, and I were to download and install your KMZ file, they would be the same, having the same non-descript text for each location? Having a grouped KMZ file is good, but each location must be different, otherwise what is the point?

Here's the deal....every pushpin is unique. Each one has a unique name that can easily be Googled to find more info on it. Some of the pushpins also have unique info on them in their separate "files", but I simply have not taken the time to put substantial unique info in for each, it takes alot of time.

The value of what I did is to locate all these things on the island....anyone can now download the KMZ file and add any notes they want.
Cheers.

Hi,

As a villa owner on St John and full time resident, I would like to add our villa's place mark on St John. I would like to concede something to KPatrick and add more info to the place mark than just the name. I just created my account today and opened the KML tutorial for the first time a few minutes ago. Looks like some serious programming action required.

I think what you are trying to do is admirable. Villas and places are extremely hard to find on St John, St Thomas too! It's a real problem for the Fire Department and emergency crews too. Some additional info about the place in the place mark would be more interesting, although I've yet to figure out how hard that is to do. Perhaps a photograph is possible although I'm not sure that would be desirable since there are apparently other ways to put a photo up.

Best Wishes to you both,

Doug

Hello,

Well here is my attempt at a place mark. I’ve added a link to our web site, a photo and a link to the Picasa web gallery for even more photos. It might be a little much for every villa on St John, but I thought I would get creative.

As a next project I’m thinking of updating sherban’s Bar and Restaurant Guide. It’s now a couple of years old and many of the restaurants are closed or have changed names. I would also like to add a photo of the exterior and maybe even a “Cheese Burger in Paradise rating”.

Cheers,

Doug

Yes, it is fairly "easy" to add specific information to each individual pushpin...text, hyperlinks, photos, videos, etc.

No problems doing it technically, it just takes time and patience. There is a whole other suject of what goes in your personal kmz files stored locally on your computer and what gets loaded onto GE layers info that all global users can see.

It is entirely up to Google Earth folks what they load up to their community layers for all to see.

Again, to all- pls feel free to download my KMZ file and modify it however you want to.
Best regards- Sherb
