Crazy Horse Memorial, the world's largest sculpture, now in progress, is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota on US Highway 16/385 just 17 miles southwest of Mount Rushmore. The work was begun in 1948 by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski at the request of Native Americans. Korczak died in 1982. His wife, Ruth, and their family continue the project working with the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation. When it is completed, the entire sculpture measures over 600 feet long and 500 feet tall! These following pictures are pictures I took during our vacation at Crazy Horse Memorial in 2002 at the Volksmarch. Follow this link to the Crazy Horse webpage for info:

We got there and are preparing for the march
A service road that leads to the mountain carving. You can even see the visitors center from here!
Path leading us to the bottom of the horse's head
The path lead us to the middle of the backside of the mountain nearing the underarm of Crazy Horse
We finally made it to the top of the arm! I was proud to scream outloud! YAH YAHEH YAH!!
The huge head is alot bigger than in what I had in mind...
The huge underarm hole is so big, it echos when I scream! (Bottom) You can even see the visitors center from here!
This was a huge experience to me. Now I realize why the people take years to just make a head sculpture! Because's its HUGE!!
