Sorry Munden - your marker for HMS Victory is in fact HMS Warrior. Here is the Victory Duplicate placemark removed. You can find the original placemark and post HERE. Please remember to enable your BBS Layer in Google Earth and to STF - Search The Forum. Thanks!!

I pondered looking for a map of the immediate area, but decided not to because I couldn't imagine their having two large masted ships there. Silly me. Thanks for the correction. I've updated my markers and the one people can download on the first note. The haze really makes it hard to see the HMS Victory even if you know where to look!

I'm not sure which you're referring to. Not knowing as much about the history of the Royal Navy I did some research and the Centaur class were old aircraft carriers. Did you mean the LPD Fearless class? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fearless_class_landing_platform_dockhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centaur_class_aircraft_carrierI'm very confident the carriers are Invincible class. As for the Albion assault ships, well .. one is so hidden by clouds that's difficult to tell by visual. I did some more measuring and both of the ones I have labeled as Albion class are very likely the HMS Intrepid and HMS Fearless. They should measure out around 157 meters where the Albion class measure at 176 meters. The superstructure does also start a bit farther back as with the Fearless class. I'm going to relabel them and replace the marker file.

Whoops. I forgot to mention that two of the British Invincible class carriers are in the port. One is in a dry dock.
Can anyone help me identify two strange looking vessels which are both docked near to those two carriers.
I dont believe in placing worthless 'What is this?' placemarks in GE, so here are a couple of images instead.
Mystery Vessel 1.
Mystery Vessel 2.

Following my earlier post Here Seaton came up with Invincible in dry dock (N on afterdeck) and Ark Royal (R on afterdeck) Quote:

I don't believe in placing worthless "What's this?" placemarks, either.
Here is the solution. When you post a "What's this" placemark, make sure that once someone tells you what it is you either (a) delete the placemark from your original post if it isn't worth knowing, or (b) update the original placemark to describe what it is (including the title).
Then the efforts of everyone to identify the object aren't wasted and can be shared in the next layer update.
I try and do this with my placemarks, and I encourage everyone else to do the same. Well, actually , I encourage everyone to do the research first and identify it themselves, but if it really is a mystery, feel free to post it.

I understand what your saying and I sometimes do what you suggest. But when there is a thread already available about the area in question, I prefer to just post a picture in that thread and then maybe, post a placemark once I've found out what it is about it that I need to know.
Thanx for your suggestion anyways.
BTW: Has anyone figured out what 'Mystery Vessel No.1' is yet?
