I would be remiss if I didn't include this Atlanta interchange in addition to "Spaghetti Junction" to the northeast. I find this one far more visually appealing!
To the south, I-75 and I-85 have merged for about 10 miles or so, resulting in a massive 7-8 lane highway (in each direction). Here, the "connector" as it's called and I-20 have an interchange, but also at this location there are a lot of on and off ramps to and forom local city streets.
This is the Golden Glades interchange, between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale Fl, and is one of the largest interchages in America. The HOV lane on I-95 goes about 70 feet in the air over the rest of it. There's also a tri-rail station, a bus interchange, and some other stuff.
Quote: This, according to the NHSTA, is the most congested freeway interchange in the States. Approximately 27,000,000 man hours of work are lost by commuters waiting in traffic where the 405 and the 101 freeways merge here in Irvine, CA.
Actually.. the 101 & 405 is in Los Angeles (in the Valley.. just past Ventura Blvd.)... this is the 5 & the 405 (The "El Toro Y"). Just FYI.
This is not in Miami. (Miami is about 20 or so miles south.) This interchange is in (roughly) central Broward county, west of Fort Lauderdale, and occurs where the extreme northwest corner of the Town of Davie meets Weston and Sunrise.
I go to Louisville on occasion for work and I hate trying to get onto I-265 from I-71 S. You have to come almost to a stop a lot of the time because traffic coming from I-265 onto I-71 has to cross with traffic going from I-71 to I-265 (within about a 75-yard distance).
