It is with great distress that I have to tell you that Danescombe (real name Dave) died last night, on his 44th birthday at 11:15 p.m. Alison, his wife, was with him, she said it was very peaceful. She had been able to read the messages to him that many of you left on here for Dave.

If he had survived, he would have needed a heart transplant.

Only very special people die on their birthday, and we all know that Dave was very special.

If you wish to leave any messages, I will make sure that they also get to Alison....I'm sure it will bring her some comfort as she and her three young sons deal with this tragic news.

Sue

Despite thinking that it would happen, I am still absolutely stunned. It's a complete tragedy.

Rest in peace, Dave and peace to the rest of your family.

Thanks to BDJ for taking on the task of getting the sad updates on behalf of all of us.

Oh no, I don't believe it. Dave was one of the first to make me feel welcome to this community.

I shall never forget him.

Please Sue, pass on my deepest sympathy and condolences to his young family. I am so sorry.

Rest in peace Dave. I hope you are in a better place.

Carl and Marie.

I met Dave twice and Alison and two of their sons once. He was a lovely man, gentle, soft-spoken, kind and very intelligent. He loved his family, and he was so proud of his boys and did so much with them. He was a good friend to me. My heart goes out to his family at this time.

That's a lovely photo, thank you for posting it Noisette.

Dave was the first moderator I ever met, he was so softly spoken, reminded me of a gentle giant - he was so focused on his sons, always talking about them, so proud of them, so active with them.

I can't believe he's gone from us. My thoughts are with his wife and the boys at this time, and the rest of Dave's family, but we were all part of his family a little bit too.

Rest in Peace my dear friend...I will never forget you.

RIP, Dave. I wish I'd known you better. My sincerest condolences to your lovely family; I hope that their knowing of the tremendous respect and affection we all felt for you will provide some measure of comfort to them when things are darkest.

So long, mate.

My deepest condolences to Dane's family. May he rest in peace. It was a shock after being away for so long to hear of his situation. My prayers are with his family.

Like many here, I knew his situation was serious, but continued to hope he would pull through. To know he hasn't, is a devastating loss for his family and for Google Earth.

It was a pleasure to know you. We are all better for it.
