Look at the shadows! How tall are these things east of Raleigh, North Carolina?

From a google search for: tallest structure raleigh antenna

The first hit is the webpage http://wvlightning.com/tower.shtml

Which states:
"This cluster of three towers near Clayton, North Carolina carry the antennas for several Raleigh-Durham area television and radio stations, including those for WRAL, WRAZ, WRDC, WQDR, WNCN and WLFL. All three towers rise to a height of just under 2,000 feet, making them prime targets for lightning strikes during any storm that happens to pass overhead."

Based on location and description I'm sure these are the antennas you have found.

I also read that the KTHI-TV tower in North Dakota is currently the tallest man-made structure at 2063 feet. I'm going to try to find it now. I'll post if I can find it!

That is nearly 1/2 mile high! Twice the height of the WTC! I've driven by there a few times and each time just looked in awe at how tall they were. THX again. And thanks for posting your SEARCH METHOD.

Yes, these are the transmitter towers for most of the Raleigh TV stations. The northernmost tower is WRAL's analog tower. The one to the southeast of that is the digital tower for (I think) most of the local stations' DTV and HDTV transmitters. The southermost tower is WTVD's.

Look to the NNE of WTVD's tower, and you can see the tower for the live doppler radar. WRAL's doppler (when this picture was taken) is to the south of its tower. They since have moved it to the HDTV transmitter site.
