Today is 07 December 2008, and there have been more than 100 pirate attacks in the Horn of Africa area over the year since the map was produced. The pirate attack patterns for 2008 are similar to 2007, but they continue to grow more frequent and more severe. Many of the pirate crews were once fishermen. Now, as pirates, they are still striving to catch bigger fish as they throw their net of high seas terrorism across the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean sea routes.
