Hello everyone. This is the first time I'm posting something this big, so please bear with me...

Mars Reconnaisance Orbiter's HiRISE camera, which takes a very close and detailed look at Mars, understandably gets a lot of attention from users of Google Earth's Mars module. As Markopolo pointed out in another thread, however, only a small portion of HiRISE's 11 thousand photos is already visible in Google Earth. Others must be viewed externally.

This plugin was created in order to make exploring HiRISE photos which are already integrated into Google Earth's Mars module easier. It's a very basic thing - all such images which I were able to find are pinpointed by placemarks with names like "HiRISE1".

There are currently 381 placemarks in this plugin. This number will likely get bigger with time. There is a whole planet to search, so I definitely didn't catch everything yet.

A note on polar regions: all images there seem to be very stretched and blurred. This is why I marked very few HiRISE images in those areas. It's better to view them externally. But I think I'll mark them in the future anyway.

That's it for now. Try it out, I hope that someone will find this useful. smile

Well I certainly think it's useful. Thank you for that.

But I'm not sure I understand...did you manually create 381 placemarks for the various pieces of HiRISE imagery which were already displayed in the Google Mars global imagery, and put them in a folder? Or have you imported additional HiRISE imagery which was not already present? Or did you create an automatic script somehow which identified and placemarked the visible HiRISE images?

In any case, you've assembled a lot of very interesting and useful images into one folder, and that is a tremendous time-saver for me, at least, as a Mars browser.

Thanks again, Serpens!

Exactly. smile I took the time to look for them, because I couldn't find any other way. I've spent several hours, but this will save some time of other people, so it was worth it. I'm glad that my work is useful to you.
