In their first year at the new Yankee Stadium (not yet viewable in Google Earth), the New York Yankees have won Major League Baseball's 105th World Series Championship. The 2009 win is their 27th Championship, following the win of their 40th American League Pennant.
Hideki Matsui, who played on three championship teams in Japan's baseball league before joining the Yankees in 2003, was named the Series' Most Valuable Player, driving in six runs in the last game.
Please note that the link to the Baseball Almanac page on the 2009 Series, already shown in the placemark, has not yet gone 'live' on their web site.
