Hi all!

I work for a terrific nonprofit and coordinate our global school construction program (among other things, we build schools and libraries in 6 countries in Asia and Africa). We’re interested in using GE to map our project sites and are currently mocking up a prototype using some sample GPS data that we’ve collected. Ultimately, we'd like to present a map of our project sites to our donors and perhaps on our website to provide a visual of the global reach of our programs.

We have some concerns about privacy issues and data-sharing policies. Since we’re talking about schools where little people go to learn, we want to be very careful about how we present our data and to whom we give access to the GPS coordinates. The last thing we want is for an unannounced guest to show up at a school using GPS coordinates we’ve provided and disrupt the classes or harass the kids. (This has actually happened to us before, without the help of GPS coordinates, so we’re even more concerned about what might go wrong when we actually have GPS data to share.)

I was hoping to get some advice about:
(1) Data-sharing policies that protect the privacy of project sites and the children who attend the schools we work in.
(2) Examples or case studies of how other organizations have presented GPS data to the public in ways that protect the privacy of their recipients/project sites.

Thanks in advance for any ideas or recommendations you can provide!

Regards,

Tom
