Thanks, Google, for the new historical imagery in Berlin. Too bad there's not more from 1945.
While looking at the 1953 imagery I see there are some significant problems with the stitching together of individual photos. For example, the north half of the Tiergarten area is not well integrated into the areas around it. As a result the Tiergarten appears to have a new boulevard running parallel to what was then called the Ost-West-Achse (East-West-Axis, which was renamed shortly thereafter in June 1953 to today's Straße des 17. Juni, in memory of the 1953 protests in East Germany). The problems are also evident at the east end of Unter den Linden; the area around the Schloßplatz on the Spree River is not coherent.
But, like I said before, thanks Google and we hope to see more.
