Hi,

I love this WWII Placemark Folder. It inspired me to write a paper on the educational benefits of Google Earth and Wikipedia mashups. (http://ed298.stanford.edu:16080/spring06/mediawiki/index.php/Peder%27s_Final_Paper ) Please leave your comments on the wiki where the paper is posted. I would really appreciate to hear your thoughts on this topic.

Thanks,
Peder

Totally wrong. Learn more to correct or just delete. Respect the history.

you're right, the correct location of okinawa is much farther west, at 26 degrees 28'17.65N, 127 degrees 54'42.36"E. this would be a good idea to fix, it is a major geographic error.

The placement of "Hitler's Suicide" is not located at the exact spot of Hitler's Bunker (FuehrerBunker). You have it just a few metres north of Potsdamer Platz when actually the bunker (at its entrance is where the Soviets supposedly burned his body) was located off of Wilhelm Str. There are a few placemark now placed there.

Shouldn't 'Operation August Storm' have a Soviet flag instead of a Chinese flag?

Interesting piece of Nazi history for you that is well-represented here, with one problem where you might be able to assist. The "Eagle's Nest" ... Nazi Party gift to Adolf Hitler ... now a restaurant in Bavaria ... is located at 47 36 39.67 N, 13 02 30.39 E. This whole area of Bavaria is very detailed, with dramatic elevation changes.

The problem is access to Eagle's Nest is by elevator buried in the mountain, and the entrance to the elevator is 400 feet below Eagle's Nest, which is up on the ridge line. However, according to GoogleEarth, the entrance is up on the ridge ... and Eagle's Nest is located below down the side of the mountain.

It was not like that when I first located Eagle's Nest ... apparently the sat photo and elevation map have shifted since then. I wonder if Google can fix this?

You have a placemark on Ocean Island (Banaba Island) labelled "Battle of Tarawa". This is misplaced in that the Battle of Tarawa took place on Tarawa, not Ocean Island!

The Placemark for the ME262 Facilities in Germany are not correct

The Location is around 5051'20 /1133'50 .
The thin Trees on the Top of the Mountain is the old Launch Site.
When you look close, you can see , where the lift for the ready to flight planes was.

The green Area left with the white Rectangle is the Memorial for the Prisoniers whos died here during the War....
