UPDATED 2 sept. 2005 : New KMZ file Added: - Many placemarks in Monaco, Liguria (Italian Riviera), Around Monaco (till Var) Changed: - Overlays (border and F1 Grand Prix) transformed in Paths (beware: unprecise border!) - KMZ file instead of KML Complements: - Some of this placemarks have been added on a Google Maps Mashup at http://www.menton-penthouse.com/maps.php UPDATED 11 dec. 2004 : New KML File Added: - Many placemarks - Comments to more placemarks - Overlays of the Border (approximate) and of the F1 Grand Prix (approximate) - Many links to webcams and photos - A web page with last version and some photos: http://www.gouillou.com/keyhole/monaco.htm- ... --------------- More than 100 placemarks of interesting (or useful) places in Monaco and area, sorted in folders, and then East toward West. The Principality of Monaco is mostly known for its Casino, late Princess Grace, and its Formula One Grand Prix, but it's much more than this. A few figures : - About 30.000 inhabitants (6.000 having the nationality) - More than 32.000 jobs - More than 100.000 cars coming each day from France and Italy To be noticed that the city of Monaco has exactly the same territory than the country (the Principality). The city is divided in "Quartiers", "Monte-Carlo" being one of these. So it is an error (however frequent) to confound Monaco and Monte-Carlo. I hope this KML file will help you preparing a journey into Monaco. There, you will find everywhere (in parking, htels, etc.) precise maps. Philippe http://www.gouillou.com/ge/monaco.htm PS: I've checked and haven't found any error. But there is however no garanty : please tell if you find some.

Outstanding post! This is a prime example of an excellent theme post. Everything is covered here, even WiFi hotspots for Periboob if he's ever in the area. Great work, APG. It looks to me that you are from the area, or at least very familiar with it. You wouldn't happen to have anything on, say Milano or Barcelona, in the same theme? (hint, hint ) Again, great job. I give it two thumbs up, and 5 stars.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I've lived part time in Monaco these last years, that's why I could indicate all this. I'm sorry I wouldn't be able to do the same thing for anywhere else in the world, but I hope some will do the same for the places they know the best. I believe Keyhole can be a fantastic tool to centralize informations, very usefull when preparing a trip. Rem: the satellite view in Keyhole is dated 2002, and since there has been one very important change : the extension of the port, as can be seen on the photos here . I'll try to add other placemarks, as other hotels, other bars, the name of the main streets, other building names, etc. The map of Monaco is distributed free of charge to anyone, but is strictly copyrighted, so I can't create an overlay. Philippe PS: About Wifi hotspots, I've just indicated those who are gratis. For the moment 16 other places (hotels, bars,...) propose wifi for a fee. I've been told there is a third free hotspot, the Waterfront in Fontvieille, but I've not checked yet.

Let me join the rest with congrats to APG for such comprehensive stuff! Just what the developers of Keyhole and the bbs had in mind! Kudos for the patience it took to build this great kml, working with the software and client, and nailing the spirit of Keyhole with your very first post!!
Amazing! ...and Thanks!!

I've just updated the Placemarks folder on Monaco to add a little more informations (car parks, etc.) on Monaco, and mostly to add placemarks around Monaco, in Roquebrune - Cap Martin, Menton, Liguria (Italian Riviera), the mountain, the Alpes-Maritimes, the Var, etc. It can be downloaded from the first message in this thread (I've updated it) or on my website: http://www.gouillou.com/ge/monaco.htm Please, tell me about any mistake or complement you would like to find. A bientot, Philippe

On September 16th, Google has added a satellite view of this area (from St Laurent du Var till Monaco) which is badly aligned, and all points at the West of the Port Hercule (Monaco) are wrong by about 40 meters. I had signaled this error (see here) but it has not yet been corrected. If you have a close look at the north side of the Port Hercule (at the level of the Port Palace) you'll see that the error is so huge that nothing can be done. You can also switch on the Roads Layer to see the problem. I'm sorry for that, but can't find another solution than to wait a correction from Google. To be noticed that Google Maps doesn't show the same problem. Philippe
