Ladies, Gentlemen

I would like to ask the coding wizards of the GE community for a DDL combining the following sources of data:

http://www.nadics.org.uk/TRAFFIC/map.asp - Scotland
http://www.trafficmap.co.uk/ - England
http://www.traffic-wales.com/map/map.php?lang=english - Wales

There are separate pages for feeds and information and quite a few live cameras available.

This could be a very rich layer and of real use to UK users.

I know Paris and Germany have been attempted before.

The information comes from the Scottish Executive, Highways Agency, and the Welsh equivilant.

If you do take up the request, I'd be very grateful.

Allan

Is there any KMZ tutorials available? I would love to try to do this myself...

Offline Traffic News is an application by Richard Sutcliffe that takes the traffic feeds and creates a TomTom PoI file, so maybe Richard could alter the code to generate a Google Earth file instead.

His website is here and there's details of his application in the forums at PocketGPS , where you'll be able to contact Richard for sure...

Wow, thanks for that,

I'll drop him an email

I just thought that if a .kmz was created...and perhaps the .csv of the Fixed Safety Camera locations added, you would effectively have a GE version of a TIM (Traffic Information Management) system...

Which would just be something else.

But writing .kmz/.kml files is beyond my limitations of time and coding...

This sounds like a cool application to write. I'd be up for doing it.

I've already written a few Google Earth applications:

http://nukes.tjworld.org - Database of nuclear test explosions
http://tjworld.net/whereisit.php - Traceroute

Maybe we could collaborate on something?

TJ.

Absolutely.

In fact, the way Richard does it you could have his application output two files: one for TomTom and one Google Earth file so you could use either solution offline to find issues on your given route...

Thanks for the interest guys...

I just know if someone does this then the interest from the UK would really massively jump. I suspect that the Highways Agency would be rather impressed as well...

I'll try and find the .csv of the Gatso/Truvelo speed cameras today and post a link up to the forum.

Allan,

The latest free 'safety' camera database is always available at PocketGPS World in multiple formats, and with two databases available (one fileset with multiple databases broken into speeds, the other with all cameras in one database).

Get in touch with the guys at PocketGPS when you're done and they'll undoubtedly give you lots of free publicity on their website!

Dolph,

I've found the .csv I was looking for, but it's designed for MS Autoroute, so I think the co-ords will need to be tweaked.

http://www.pocketgpspoi.com/downloads/pocketgps_uk_sc_sep05.zip is the hyperlink to the excellent pocketgps site's database of safety cameras.

I don't have Pro, just GE so importing is going to take sometime, anyone had any attempts at the .kmz yet??

How do you mean 'tweaked'?

If it's in csv format, it'll just contain the relevant fields. So, the question is has the csv got Lat and Long, or is it using Eastings/Northings (OS grid reference)?

Lat and Long should go into Google Earth without issue. E/N data needs a bit of work however...
