I have just been on a vacation to Budapest. In order to prepare for the trip, I used the Keyhole program. I would now like to share the placemarks and overlays with other Keyhole users. The overlays are quite big and should be stored on your harddisc. You can download them from the URL at the bottom here and store the maps in a folder named "Keyhole" under My Documents.

Thanks for all the information you have provided. It is remarkable how much time and energy people put into providing such details to the community. You should probably check your fourth overlay. I was able to download and install the first three but the fourth (for downtown) gives a 404 not found error.

I also face the frustration that the overlay for the City Map is too large for my modest 64 MB nVidia card (Ti4200 GeForce 4) so it shows up all black. When I finally pop for a new card (halflife 2 is not as smooth in some parts as my children would prefer) I will have the overlay in place and ready to view. I'd like to visit Budapest someday and your guide should prove useful.

Thank you Steve for your comments! I had given the file a faulty name. OK on the harddisc, but bad on the web. That's the way to fool yourself. Now it should be OK.
I have spent some hours on this information, but it was good to come to Budapest feeling that I new the city quite well. Using the metro around was very fast and a piece of cake!

The Soviet Army Monument.

Most of the soviet monuments that decorated Budapest are now moved outside of the city to The Statue Park. This monument however remains as a reminder of the Red Army
troops who liberated Budapest in 1944/45.

The building behind the monument is the Hungarian Television (MTV) Building from 1906, which used to be the Budapest Stock Exchange

Imre Nagy Statue.

This bronze statue commemorates the Hungarian Prime Minister just prior to
1956, Imre Nagy.

He had introduced a more liberal form of communism, and had to hide from the Russian invaders in the Yugoslavian Embassy. The Soviets promised him freedom, so he left the Embassy, but was arrested and two years later executed. A Hungarian national hero!

He is standing on this little bridge looking at the Parliament.

Dear Moaguten,

We are new in keyhole and we'd like to add some interesting places to the map of Budapest /besides of yours , but we have faced the problem that our placemarks cannot be posted. We do not know the process of posting a placemark /we have tried to do it with Liberty bridge I have posted it in the placemark forum, but it does not appear or loaded automatically to the map as -for example- all of yours do. Maybe we should wait a certain time to appear these placemarks automatically?

I'm sure you know the answer please help us in this. Thanks a lot,

Welcome!

The placemarks posted here as attachments to posts are collected and processed into a Keyhole data layer just before each database update. The sooner you make the posts, the sooner the attached KML files will be translated into a data layer and streamed to Keyhole users worldwide.

None of my placemarks are in the BBS layer yet, nor are many, many others'.
I wonder.. when the next update comes along, will the world be a solid sea of nothing but blue circled i's?
