With the help of the new Lat-Long.com link (Sad to say, this link is no longer active) , I put together views of each state's highest point. Some are majestic mountains, some lesser but still impressive hills, and some are spots perceptable as high spots only to a surveyor. While this can be run as a tour, I suggest clicking on one location at a time and scanning around a little. Sites are alphabetical by states. Be sure to have 3D x 1 on. You may even want to try 3D x 3 for some of the really level states. By their very nature, many of the high spots are in remote areas, either mountainous or farmland, which means that most are low resolution. But this tour is more about geomorphology than fine detail. Enjoy. Hill

Edited 3-6-05: All state highpoints now have individual posts added as responses to this tour. Each has more information and links about the highpoint, as well as a placemark of its own.
Edited 3-27-06 Small corrections and repair of broken links.

Is that what you were working on was this?Nice Job and thanks a lot.

And what do you mean by having 3D x 1 on or trying 3D x 3?I do not see these settings on Keyhole LT.

That's the Elevation Exxageration in the Preferences box where you can increase the elevation gradiant. I usually keep mine set at 1.5 Seems like the right balance for me.

Good post, too, Hill. It's kinda wierd that Connecticut's high point is not a summit, but just a point on the side of a hill.

Don't ya love them latlon guys!

Hill,
You and I must have much the same interests. I posted the La Conchita mudslide after you did (sorry that I did not search first). Then an overlay of the mudslide. I was working on the highest point in each state when, all of a sudden you come up with it. Keep up the good work, and I'll see if I can help you out on some of the info.

Yes, now I've done it twice .

For the exaggeration setting: 1. Click on file in the viewer. 2. Click on preferences - your only choice. 3. Choose the view tab. In rendering you can type in any value from 1-3. I usually keep mine set at 1, but sometimes set it higher to make more subtle features stand out better. BTW, have you ever downloaded an attachment and found that the placemark tried to bury itself in the ground? Whoever posted did so with 3d off and your is on. Click the screen button off and you'll see the post the way they intended.

Reposting happens, we try to keep it to a minimum is all. Were you using the Lat-Long.com site? It got almost all of them. Some of those flat states, like Delaware for instance, have no real peaks, just a gradual increase of altitude away from sea level. Four or five took about as much work as the other 45 or so put together.
Americasroof.com and Highpointers.org are good for extra details, including pictures, from many of the high points. I used them both to help me with Delaware and a couple of others.

Yes, it's going to prove to be very helpful. Poor Connecticut has to use part of MA's mountain, but at least it's something you can climb.

Delaware has the second lowest high point of all the states. It's marked by a road intersection near a abandoned fire lookout tower converted into a radio mast. Here is a web page with some pictures.

Quote:

Note: Although the the highpoint is said to be at the tower at Ebright and Ramblewood, a revision of the Wilmington North Topo map in 1997 shows a closed contour in a trailer park ("the first trailer") about 300 yards west of the tower and the elevation there is approximately 451 feet. HOWEVER do not bother the people in the trailer park as we have not secured permission to visit this mound. The Highpointers Club recognizes the sign. It is a trivial elevation and distance to cross the field to the mound on private property.]
