A Word of Caution --------- . ------------------------------- Do Not open all the sub-folders at once--or you may slow your PC to a crawl

Source for Data Layers;-
A) Stadsman's "Global infrared satellite images. A collection of real time colour enhanced infrared satellite images, updated every 3 hours. Super impose rainfall/atmospheric moisture and "see though" the clouds to assess the amount of rainfall presentBe your own weatherman!
B) Paul Buxtons Solar Position Calculator- Superimpose the actual position of the sun onto the overlay.-Deleted--link permanently down
C) World Sunlight Map. This German site is a trully execllent source of real time data on World Sunlight progression. ( http://www.die.net/ )b Updated every 60mins this overlay shows real time progression on Sunlight and Cloud Cover around the globe (Please DO NOT increase the Refresh Rate-)
D) Radeon's -Global Cloud Map. Updated every hour
E) Latest Sea Surface Temperatures. pdchawaii. Sea Surface Temperature Weekly global Sea Surface Tempatures. fields on a 1 degree by 1 degree grid. The analysis uses both in-situ SSTs and satellite derived SSTs from the NOAA Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR)
F)Projection Used :-- Using an equirectangular projection (plate carre).
Plate Carre or Equirectangular projection, this projection is one way of looking at the spherical Earth as a flat map. Though it distorts area, shape, and angles, it is often used in computer applications because the X and Y axis map directly to latitude and longitude. Compared to the Mercator, Peters, or Mollweide projections, the Plate Carre allows an almost exact fit when placed on a sphere.

Hey that's great. At last I can explain to my kids how the sun strikes the earth and how that makes day and night.
Are we pulling on your server every 30 minutes, or is this embedded code somehow?

Glad you like it. My kids also are enjoying it. it updates from the server every hour. i tried a php code but tried myself in knots--so went for the easier solution. regards

Very very very cool. And here was I looking at a boring old website.
Next logical step is to manipulate the weather online and watch it change. Well it is theoretically possible if you're into chaos theory, you know butterfly wings in South America.

3D real-time, high res, world weather map?
i suspect that's already coming down the pipe at us- when we think back to how amazed we all were at the power of the Spectrum C5, its hard to imagine just what will NOT happen or be possible over the next 30 years or so.

Hey!

GREAT work!...

I took the liberty of applying this work to a great cause.
Some friends of mine are sailing across the atlantic this very moment, on an expedition that will take them from Rio de Janeiro BRAZIL to Luanda ANGOLA and back again.
I overlayed your south atlantic layer over the sail path of the boat. We communicate by short wave radio and they provide the coordinates which I then use to update their daily position.
This layer is a great add-on for them to know what sort of weather to be expecting next time we communicate.

On behalf of the "Abrao Vela - Expetition" WE THANK YOU !

PS: In case anyone is interested I have also posted the Expedtions Dynamic Link here: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showflat.php?...rt=1#Post215046

And for those who would like to comment we would love some feedback: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showflat.php?...rt=1#Post215046

Once again Thank You

Thanks for your comments. GE is such a fantasic resource. I really pleased its being used to affect real people, doing real things. Im envious of your friends-sailing the Atlantic and wish then a safe journey. regards

That is absolutely fascinating, to be able to track their progress like this and see the real-time conditions they are encountering along the way. Yesterday I followed a GE-based canoe trip through British Columbia, and now this...wow.

Best of luck to the crew and the journey. May you have following winds and smooth sailing!

Thanks!

In fact, the team here on land is beggining to stress a little.
No contact, has been made for the past 2 days and the weather conditions arent getting any better. ~
Nonetheless, they have been this long without contact before and ended up ok.
Well just have to wait and see if weather gives us a break and allows communication.

Best Regards
Djorge
