Hi Desmo,

I remember the recovery in the news at the time, but didn't know it had been restored. I found a description of the restoration and unveiling here.

I visited the Elvington Museum a couple of years ago and saw the Halifax there (Friday the 13th). It's an impressive sight, but there are bits of several aircraft there and a lot of new build stuff, so it's not so completely authentic as the Trenton aircraft. Here's the story.

Cheers

Frank

As a long-time reader of FlyPast and Aeroplane Monthly magazines, I know a bit about "Friday the 13th".
And also the B MkII Srs , W1048 at the RAF Museum, Hendon. Preserved in "as found"-condition. That too was a Norwegian find, from Lake Hoklingen near Trondheim. Shot down after attacking the "Tirpitz" with modified 1.000 lbs sea mines.
Royal Air Force History;H-P Halifax- 66 years on.

There are many wonderful things to be found with GE. Well known places have been found and placemarked many times. To add new information about a placemarked feature, make a reply to the placemark and post already in place.

Your duplicate placemark has been removed.

Please remember to use the SEARCH page and the BBS layers.

Welcome 63top,

click here for a thread discussing this.

To make your time here better enable the layers as outlined when you post a placemark and you'll see that this one has already been posted. In addition it's always a good idea to avoid posting a question or comments about a subject in a non related thread. It reduces confusion and annoyance.

cheers

Hi John,

Many thanks for the heads-up on that. I hadn't seen the article until you mentioned it.

Ironically, I remember reading the Black Helicopters thing when it first came out - how I got to it I don't know, as it wasn't something I was specifically interested in. Then, on spotting the Lancaster over my house, I thought I'd check back on that same site I'd read before - to see if it had already been noticed. There was no word, so I posted on GE. It's really put a smile on my face to see the article up there now !

Thanks again for the pointer !

Jules
