Did anyone else get an email giving a link to download the Google Earth Beta Preview? I am concerned it's phishing/generally fake... wondered if anyone else got it and it turns out its fine?

I think all registered users got it today.. check the Google Earth board (you have to be logged in to do so) for more info. it is a beta test, not the full product release, so "be aware" of that before deciding to download as it will wipe out your current Keyhole program. You can apparently uninstall Google Earth and reinstall Keyhole if you wish later.

Considering the email came from uptilt.com who are among other things "a leading provider of advanced email marketing solutions" you are wise to be concerned but this one is legit.

The Google Earth beta invitation does indeed come as an email invitation to download. This email is from the same email "publishing" service (remember we have many subscribers) that is used to distribute the opt-in Keyhole GLOBE newsletter. Clicking on the download link simply causes your browser to display a "should I download this file" panel. Say yes, and the Google Earth beta installer will be delivered to your machine.

We built this file and we can assure you personally that it does not have any virus problems. I ran virus scans on it before it was made available for download. Also, the original "0149" version and today's "0155" were also verified by me after downloading from the beta distribution site.

You are looking at the genuine beta installer.

Uh oh!! Since I've never had any luck getting the Keyhole GLOBE, I think I'm outta luck getting the new Google Earth update! Me and FuNkY_CaPrIcOrN...

I did my install on 5-28-05. I am very impressed. The zoom time seems a lot faster and the layer options are more convenient.
You will need a fast computer.

I've been a subscriber for a year or so, and have not received any email about this. :/ Anyone know if only select members are receiving this, or if is it open to all subscribers?
