Placemarked here is the home football ground of Stoke City F.C.. Known as the Britannia Stadium, it is here the championshiip league team play.

If you look closely, you can see many thousands of people all gearing up for a football match (either that, or the ground has been taken over by giant ants!) I've tracked down the date the image was taken and the match those people are queueing up to see is Stoke City Vs Sheffield United which resulted in a 0-0 draw!

Enjoy!
Cheers,
Phil, UK

Hi beno,

I used the DG layers in the layers tab to work it out.

I posted a good explaination of this process right here

Hope that helps

Cheers and welcome to Google Earth if you've not been welcomed yet!
Phil

And here, if it works, is the old Victoria ground. It works best from the default view, and if you make it about 50% opaque.

Enjoy.

I'm sorry to disapoint but as a season ticket holder to the Britannia Stadium who attends ALL home games I can assure you that this is NOT a matchday.

A couple of observations:
Firstly there are hardly any vehicles around the Stadium, and on a matchday the carparks all around are bursting with cars including the ones of the nearby fitness centre, Five-a-side business and the main "South Stand" car park which is completely empty.
Secondly, there are LOADS of people around the Stadium, but if you notice they are all approaching from the "Sir Stanley Matthews Way" road and are actually walking/running up the road and into the Stadium area from the south. Normally people would be approaching from ALL directions especially from the East along the path parallel to the A50 main road and from the West via the footbridge over the canal and railway from the Campbell Road area. There is no foot traffic at all along these routes.
It seems to me that there's probably some kind of running walking event taking place.
There is quite a lot of non-football activity at this Stadium and a few times i've gone to buy tickets or visit the Club Shop and there's been some kind of event going on when I expected it to be quiet. A couple of months ago there was a massive Religious Event taking place there, but hardly any cars about. It seems that something similar is taking place here, but definately not a footy game.
Sorry!
I notice there are cars queuing for the incinerator just to the west though!!!

UPDATE-
I'm 100% positive what is going on around the ground because I was there that day.
Its the annual Bikers Toy Run where 1000's of bikers collect toys, ride around the city and give them to charity.
Notice the two lines of traffic going down one lane which aren't big enough to be cars.

Hey dmpoole,

You are pretty lucky to live that close and to have the possibility to go to every match, every year. I'd love to have that opportunity too!
