Today begins the XV Edition of the Cruce de los Andes, an International Teams Relay Race. ( See all editions)

Here is the road that a tottaly female team is going to run across the Andes, beginning today, running day and night. Each athlete has about 42 km ahead (26 miles), but this deppend on the terrain difficulty. The highest altittude is 4700 mts (15,400 foot) Total distance, more than 500 kms (310 miles).

The Race began in San juan city (Argentine) and finishs in La Serena (Chile). This is part of the Kurufmawida Team (Mountain Wind in Mapuche, the native language) composed by 10 argentinian, 1 brasilien and 1 chilenean young girls (and not so ) First tottaly female team in this competition history.

Theyll had to battle against the summer (could find 40C, 104F), lack of oxigen at 4700 mts (15,000f) where, I personally can say that just to be there it produces headaches and the frozen nights.

The road is marked with the stages each girl its going to run. (Im already tired just to made it... )

EDIT: Press Fly
I want to give special thanks to Hill who draw the path and gave me some editing tips, Tools>Control>Driving Directions Tour Options>Camera Tilt Angle= 69 degrees>Camera Range 5000 m> Speed = Fast. Enjoy the tour

The scenery is so spectacular that I couldn't resist making a path of the route. Some of the route doesn't connect with your placemarks, but most does. (Perhaps your placemarks are generalizations anyway?) I suggest terrain on of course and roads off (they are none too accurate here anyway). You may also want to uncheck the route and just highlight the path before starting the tour so that nothing interferes with the scenery. Other settings: Tools>Control>Driving Directions Tour Options>Camera Tilt Angle= 70-75degrees>Camera Range 5000 m> Speed = Fast. Enjoy the tour and edit to modify if you want to add it to your folder.
