The attached set of overlays summarize the last 40,000 years of history in central east Europe. This part of Europe, centered on Romania was home to an ancient high level civilization 7,000 years ago. Since then the area has been at the nexus of migrations from Asia into Europe which spawned the Celtic, Greek and Italian cultures. Later Germanic, Hun and Magyars invasions ushered in the european dark ages. The maps continue up to the 20'th century.

This detailed set of overlays comes from the Eliznik Romanian history site.

A few clues from the Old Europeans remain:

Beautiful art

Pottery

Goddess worship

Temples as seen in pottery from the period

Untranslated script

village life

Very very nice job! I'd love to see some Major place or site names on the overlays too.

All - I added a some time markers to the overlay maps. Now you can use the time slider to select the map and see changes from century to century.
