My wife and I had a blast cruising around Delhi and identifying all the different spots we could. Google Earth only has high-res data for about half of Delhi, but it's the important half (for us anyways) -- South Delhi. Lots of well known locations along with descriptions, written by me. Enjoy and if you have any questions about Delhi, please let me know -- I'd be more than happy to answer them. I'll continue to build on this and upload new data when I have some.

There are many wonderful things to see on the Earth,
but unfortunately this was previously posted. You can
find the original post and placemark HERE. Duplicate
placemark removed. Please remember to enable all the

For anyone interested, here's a table of the spots that I marked and their descriptions...

Pragati Maidan: Delhi's primary fairground, this is where a lot of prominent conventions and conferences are held.
Old fort: aka Purana Quila, this is one of the many forts in Delhi. It is now home to the zoo and there is a light and music show that is held here that's worth seeing (at least it was the last time I went 5-7 years ago)
India gate: Memorial built to honor the Indian soldiers who died in World War II.
Sunder Nagar Market: A decently well-known market in Delhi, best known to tourists for its arts and crafts stores and best known to locals for the "Sweets Corner" fast food store.
Sweets Corner: Good food!
Lodhi road: Home to one of the nicest parks and neighborhoods in Delhi.
Jawarhalal Nehru Stadium: A lot of sporting events and the occasional musical concert is performed here. In the 1980s, when I lived in Delhi, Peter Gabriel, Youssnodour (sp?), Sting and a bunch of other musicians performed here for the Amnesty Human Rights Concert.
Moolchand Flyover: This is a busy "flyover" (ie overpass) in Delhi, head west from here and you get to South Extension market, the Hyatt Regency and Bhikaji Cama Place. There's also a well known and old hospital on the north-east corner of this flyover.
Archana Cinema: Used to be a movie theater, but is now a shopping arcade and office building. It's still known as Archana Cinema though and well known as a landmark in Delhi (must have been famous in its time). It's located in Greater Kailash Part I. Home to one of Ritu's location (Ritu's is a designer Indian clothing brand).
Humayan's Tomb:
Safdarjang Airport: This airport is now defunct. It happens to be where one of the Gandhi sons, Sanjay Gandhi, died in a plane crash. There's a nice aviation museum right next to this airport.
Samrat Hotel: To relatively old, but good, hotels in Delhi.
Ashoka Hotel: Was the hottest hotel in Delhi in its time.
American Embassy School (AES): This is a school attended by a lot of children of American diplomats, and recently, children of people that work for multi-national companies that are stationed in Delhi. It was a great school when I went there, and I think it still is today. They have a great academic program with full IB and AP curriculum (for high schoolers).
Mater Dei: All girl's school in New Delhi
Baha'i Lotus Temple:
Siri Fort Auditoriam: This whole complex was built up for the Asiad games held in Delhi in the early 1980s. It's now a place to catch great plays, have a meal or go shopping.
Chirag Delhi Flyover:
Nehru Place: This is one of Delhi's high-tech markets. If you are looking for anything computer hardware or software, this is a good place to go.
Indira Gandhi Stadium: Built for the Asiad games held in Delhi in the early 80's.
Qutab Minar: Famous Delhi landmark.
All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), New Delhi, India:
Hyatt Regency:
Baseball field in New Delhi: You might be wondering what a baseball diamond is doing in a country where the only bat & ball sport played is cricket... This is the baseball diamond at ACSA, a "club" within the American compound where they have a couple of bowling alleys, a restaurant, and, yes, a baseball diamond.

Thank you so much for this post. I have just now finished visiting the places on your tour and already I have a better understanding of these interesting sights in New Delhi. How wonderful that we all can be the world's tour guide to the places that we know.

In a few weeks these places will be gathered and published as the latest version of the "Keyhole Community" data layers in Google Earth. When this happens many more people will see the places and learn from what you have shared.

I'm pretty sure that paharganj is further north where the Google Earth data for Delhi drops off. But I'll check with my wife to be sure. Yeah, it was a disappointment to not have data further North, most of the old parts of Delhi are to the North -- Chandni Chowk (good paranthas here too!), the Red Fort, Model Town, etc.

I was wondering where IIT, Delhi is. I recall it as being in the vicinity of Qutb Minar, but I could't locate it. You may want to put a placemark on the charming, circular Parliament Bldg. as well as Rashtrapathi Bhawan and Red Fort.

Much enjoyed your home town!

Hi Rakesh,
The Tomb next to Safdarjung Airport is not Humayun's Tomb but Safdarjung's Tomb.
