Stage 12 - Thursday, July 14: Brian�on - Digne-les-Bains, 187 km

On Bastille Day, the Tour goes south to end up Alps stages. While having series of peaks all over the route, who will try to break away? French riders should.

The GPS data end at 1km to go in Digne-les-Bains, so I added some path thru the finishing line reffering the map below.

I tried to make Stage 13 route map, and found the path based on tour.ARD.de GPS data is obviously far away from the towns on letour.fr official time schedule.

I looked at data and found the longtitude misaligned for just 3 degrees.
So I made correct Stage 13 path data here, so pls replace the one with this.

Will post Stage 13 route map soon.

Stage 13 - Friday, July 15: Miramas - Montpellier, 173.5 km

In between Alps and Pyrenees, its pretty flat stage so some young riders would try one day fame.
The finish line is inside Stade de la Mosson - home of Montpellier. The football stadium will be a Velodrome for the day.

I added some path thru the stadium line refering the map below and this one.

This is a dynamic follow of the Tour de France Stage 12

That network link did not leave me in peace...

So i checked how to get the live position information from the web to follow the Tour de France.

The only information you get is the distance from start.
So i made a table with the track coordinates and computed the distance.
Then i can reffer to the coordinates of the track.

Quick and dirty i did it in Excel

I have an external data link to
http://www.letour.fr/2005/TDF/LIVE/fr/1100/dprofil.html

From there i extract the distance, generate the KML file with the coordinates from the table and then wait 15 seconds.

Google Earth can then update the network link

and you see the little red car (There is no Bike) moving along the track.

All is packed in the excel table

at first run it will generate a file "le_Tour_live.kml" you need to set up the correct network link

Then it generates the file "letourcurrent.kml" with the current position every 15 seconds.

You need to stay with excel running all the time in the background, guess why!

Known Problems:

1) I DO NOT KNOW IF IT WORKS with you

2) sometime Google Earth will loose the network link because i need to delete the file before writing the new version.

I just stumbled on to this thread earlier today. I'm watching Stage 10 and looking at it on GE. (I'm a couple of days behind on my DVR!) It really adds a great dimension to be able to see all the terrain.
