another Weird 'n Grisly placemark..



The brutal Christmas murder of the little beauty pageant queen in her upscale Boulder home (placemarked here) caught the world's attention.



JonBenet Ramsey's mother Patsy phoned 911 early on the morning of December 26, 1996 reporting that her daughter was missing and that she'd found a ransom note. Shortly after the police arrived, John Ramsey found his daughter's garotte-strangled body in the basement.

Autopsy results also reported a fractured skull and sexual assault on the six year old.

John and/or Patsy Ramsey became suspects and remain under suspicion by many, but they were never charged. There have been many allegations of police errors and oversights at the crime scene and in the ensuing investigation.



Today there's an internet subculture devoted to both JonBenet and her murder, which remains unsolved. She would have been almost 15 years old now.

Good work there, neon. It's a wonder this one hasn't been posted before. It's also a wonder that they haven't fixed your 40 degrees North ditch yet. Must be a bug that can't be squashed.
And personally, I find the whole child beauty pagent culture kind of disturbing.

I can recommend a couple of books called James Dean Died Here and Marilyn Monroe Dyed Here by Chris Epting. He gives you addresses, locations and brief summaries of the events. Really comes in handy.

stiuskr Thanks, and yea the whole child beauty pageant thing is disturbing, but I think the glamour shots of Jonbenet all decked out added to the attention that her murder got. She was such an obviously pretty little girl anyway, but the pageant outfits, makeup, hair, etc. just made the story more compelling somehow (if only for their freakishness).. I don't think they helped the Ramseys much when proclaiming their innocence though..

I didn't know they might fix bugs like the 40-N ditch outside of a major update.. it's still kind of fun to ride
