I would like to see what people think of this. The concept is simple, but I think its fun. It might have been done before.

Use the attached KML and a placemark will be created in the middle of your view after you move and stop the camera.

Click the placemark, and click the link in the popup, and the view will show up in Microsoft Live Local.

From there you can see the 45 degree bird's eye view from North, South, East or West in some places

Now has links for Google Maps and Yahoo Maps
(Yahoo Maps behaves kind of funny on the second click of the link)

Excellent! I sometimes cross-check locations in Windows Live, but always find the process of getting to the location rather tedious. This does it in a few clicks: the icon link and another to enable Birds' Eye View. The Live interface rather stinks, but the Birds' Eye images (in the parts of the US where they exist) can be very nice.

Is this dependent on GE beta 4.0 ?

It seems to do nothing in 3.0.0762

I tested this only in GE beta 4.

I'll make an effort tonight to see why it doesn't work in GE 3.

Thanks for trying it out.

Outstanding! It now works fine in GE 3.

I'm frequently checking to see if equivalent locations have missing images or are censored in Windows Live Local. What a fast and accurate way to compare.
