The LA Times has just come out with a beautiful 5 part series on "the crisis in the seas" called Altered Oceans .

Vestal Design, an eco-conscious product and web design company, has created a kmz illustrating the "Eastern Garbage Patch", an area of the Pacific Ocean that's been collecting massive amounts of garbage due to ocean patterns based on Part 4 of the series. Also see their blog post.
