"The Great Minnesota Get-Together" is taking place today through Labor Day, September 4, 2006.
The first Minnesota State Fair was back in 1859, and today, is the second largest State Fair in the United States (the largest is the Texas State Fair). The fairground is in the Midway area of the Twin Cities, between Minneapolis and St. Paul. It is backed with tons to do and see.
The Grandstand offers popular entertainment every night including Rascal Flatts, Amy Grant, Kenny Rogers, and Brooks & Dunn. The State Fair offers plenty to eat, but is most famous for "foods on a stick." In fact, there are more than 25 different foods-on-a-stick, making it one of the fair's defining characteristics. Food vendors offer everything, from Alligator-on-a-stick to Hot-dish-on-a-stick! For the kids, the State Fair has the
Mighty Midway, a huge amusement park with endless fun!
Each year, the State Fair begins with the
Princess Kay of the Milky Way Contest, in which the winner is carved in butter! This tradition started with the purpose of promoting Minnesota's dairy industry.
