This could be the sardine run. Millions of sardines being hunted at the same time by predators such as dolphins, sharks, whales and gannets. If you look N/E you can see formations of flocks (some in 'V') flying towards them. sardine run

I agree they certainly look like birds flying in formation!

(The first lot is 700 feet away in case anybody else spends ages looking for them too far away like I did! The furthest ones I found were 1 1/4 miles to the north!)

You should add a pointer to this post to Hill's excellent collection !
