dulce,

The problem is that all the coutry colors are set to Random. Sometimes neighboring coutries will end up with very similar colors. All you have to do is reload the KML and it should show a different set of colors.

Very nice, how did you generate the polygons?

These islands are France. They are French territories.

Matt,

If you look in the KML Discussions forum there is a tutorial in this post; however, if you want to cut to the chase, look here.

For these specific polygons, I converted GML data in this thread. It is best if you read the whole thing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks....looks like the source data needs to be in GML format. Any idea if there is an easy way to convert SHP files to GML? I did a little searching on google, but didn't come up with anything.

Matt

This looks to be a great post but... I don't know whether it's a problem with my two computers or the fact that I'm using the free GE version but I am unable to see the polygons :-(

The attached screenshot shoul clarify what I mean.

Stadsman,

Sorry to hear that. I have also experienced some problems on older machines (especially after upgrading to 3.0.0395 beta). Try turning off borders and terrain. Let me know if that helps.

p.s. I double checked this on the free version before posting.

Great! Except I must protest that Denmark has the same color as Norway!

Yes, and the problem with the look of some polygons (look at New Zealand with terrain on) look like crap is because you have made them relative to the ground instead of an absolute height, so they follow the terrain. A smaller ting I guess.

Oh, and why is it when we load it, it zooms in on some submarine in the middle of nowhwere?

It was related to my graphics card settings, it all works now - great stuff, very impressive. Must have been a huge amount of work *****
