I have had a reply from The AMD forum.

Please try this if your having problems with the AMD Athlon.

Please report back if this helps or not.

I just downloaded the version 4 of Google Earth and ran it for about an hour without problems, you could try installing the dual core optimizer from http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Techni...1_13118,00.html also check in device manager under the Computer heading it should list "ACPI Multiprocessor PC"

LINK FIXED

Hi,

Yep, that seems to work too. I did a quick test only, let's see if it keeps that way, but for the moment perfect!

Thanks for that.

BTW, the link didn't get copied entirely I think, I found it on:
AMD-dual core optimizer

Cheers,
FT

wow! thats awesome. i would have never figured that out. i had a different problem but it fixed it anyway. my problem was everything would work fine all day long until i tried to tilt the screen. as soon as i would slide the bar everything would go black and i would have to close it out and restart. i would hit tilt a lot by accident trying to zoom (since both sliders are kindof the same) and it was really aggrevating. im glad i checked this post. thanks a lot!

I have the same problem:

Athlon X2 4200
2GB
ATI X800 256MB

Everything works until I tilt more than a few degrees. Same as everyone else.

I already show the Correct ACPI Multiprocessor driver.

Really annoying, but like most multicore bugs, setting the affinity to use just 1 core seems to fix it.

Sounds like system restore is replacing it?

Turn off system restore, sort it out
and then (if you feel like) turn sys.restore back on...later
next day,even.. after making sure that was it.

Any way to add a command line arg to the GoogleEarth exe so that we can set affinity from the shortcut?

ie - "x:\PathToGoogleEarth\googleearth.exe" -affinity 0|1

Just an idea unless it gets fixed in a better way.

Me too - AMD dual Core X2 4600+ with nVidia card.
I can run GE just fine if I start it after a fresh reboot, where I have not run any other other "heavy" programs first. Then it seems to work fine without "crashing in the ground". But if I first run Photoshop, SketcjUp or some other progams first, and then start up GE it very quickly ends up with the nose in the ground when I try to tilt the camera. A side-effect which is also happening then is that when I double-click one of my spots in Norway I never fly all the way. It always ends up high up in the sky and far away. When GE is fresh it seems to fly straight where I point it at, to the predefined view position.
I tried setting the affinity to CPU1 only, and it seems to work OK. But then I lost all my bitmapped textures on my SketchUp models
I attached a kmz file to see if you also lose the textures.

I just installed the Dual-Core Optimizer, but after rebooting I have to run a few heavy programs first to see if GE still crashes.

I have the same problem (crash on version 3 and blank screen on version 4) on dual core AMD Turion 64 x2.

After I installed AMD CPU driver (ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_3100_5100_5110/driver/cpu_v1.3.1.0.zip)
it works fine...

Wow!

Excellent work. I would never had thought of that on my own!

Downloaded Beta 4, kept getting black screen, and came here to post. I searched first, and this is working perfectly.

Thank you!
